![]() He was new car sales manager for Fred Jones during the Thunderbird's early years on the market, he won (in a sales contest) the first 1958 T-bird produced and he's remained close to the dealership's sales departments throughout his tenure. Wasinger, who is now "semi-retired" says he has watched the Thunderbird and its customers up close for most of the car's history. "And it's attracting some of the same kind of customers. "The new one has that same sport spirit the first ones had," he said. The 1990 model starts at $14,500.įor all the differences, though, the new car and the old car are alike in at least two important ways, Wasinger said. The 1990 model has a modern aerodynamic form and pages full of standard equipment and options. The '55 had a now-famous boxy style, two seats and a meager list of options: a few color choices, manual or Ford-O-Matic transmission and a radio.
